The Empire Strikes Back... duh? nothing so glorious, I am just once again in the foul mood to write about a new movie.
So, let me see, ...............%10.......%30.......%60 ...........%80.......
Ok, my wonderful self, (do not argue on this, this is a net supported monologue), today we talk about the Purge!
General scenario:
Some brilliant minded psychos found out that if you leave everybody absolutely free to kill anybody for one specific day per year, the general criminal rate decreases.
So, for this special day everybody prepares ammunition, guns, bows, swords, spells, nuclear weapons of mass destruction and anything that is available and sets out to reevaluate his relationships with his neighbor.
Alright, sounds like a smart scenario, doesn't it? Lots of space for a bit of agony, despair and somewhat large doses of gore?
Yep,

Death and Cremation
Yaaaarrrrrr out thereeee...
I watched this one yesterday, so I am just writing a few random thoughts:
General plot: An old guy (Brad Dourif), full of horrible, satanic pimples and a face that can turn milk to yogurt instantly, is the happy owner of a crematorium. And he likes society quite a lot. For no apparent reason he brutally kills and cremates young, not-so-extremely-clever girls from the local high school.
Looks like your first math teacher, doesn't he?
Yep, scene change. Boring, miserable EMO-boy in the local high school. Gets beaten quite a lot, hates everybody, smokes "pot" (yeah right, now you almost convinced me that smoking "things" lets you have these "puffy" cheeks...). Insignificant emo-boy argues with widow mum, boy looks for job, boy meets the old guy with the crematorium, old guy sympathizes the miserablemo-boy, so a partnership starts.
A few more stupid students are killed, plus a very efficient cop (they could probably cremate his balls and not getting upset), and some other insignificant corpses, and finally old guy and young emo-boy getting away in their car to new adventures.
Almost good points:
- Evil triumphs in the end (you see, dead cop, killers flee to Jamaican vacations).
- Brad Dourif is a respectably disgusting evil dude and a great actor (check here).
- Killing scenes are raw and efficient without pools of blood and internal organs flying everywhere.
Not so good points:
- The movie flow is not exactly "exciting". Characters are rather flat, plot sometimes goes in the form "I do not like you, I hate you, I kill you (brutally), next please". This style while it is absolutely normal for z-grade splatter films, it does not fit so well in this dark but wannabe serious horror movie.
Anyway, watch it, I think it worths your time, or send me a bunch of cheese-smelling flowers.
Rate: 6 (mostly because Dourif is an interesting villain)
See you soon with another pointless movie review...

Men behind the sun
U r so fuckin' SICK!
My story: I found this movie looking into "My best horror ..." useless lists. I watched the atrocious thing. I felt quite appalled, disgusted and nauseated. Comparing this 80's movie with the latest sick creations such as Saw, Hostel etc. could lead to the false conclusion that this movie is not soooo sick, but ...
Maybe it's this unexplained feeling that all these might have actually happened, or these multitude of gruesome and unjustifiable situations so many years before the Saw generation...
Movie's story: Evil Japanese test biological weapons on poor Chinese prisoners. (Wow! this actually sums up as a scenario summary).
Yeap, just this. Of course, add tortured, brain-washed children, polar temperatures, thousands of rats, twisted military officers and a few other details and you have a soup to puke (definitely - Worse even than my specialty of chocolate covered anchovies).
This gentleman seems a bit satisfied? Yep, why not, he has just drunk a glass of his own urine :)
Hey, this is NOT the friendly butcher in your neighborhood, even though he looks far more harmless...
Highlights??? (wtf am I writing?):
1) Certainly and first of all the happy, carefree and mute kid who's playing just outside the "sick" camp. Just a hint of happiness, so you can imagine how it ends:
Butchered and in many many pieces.
2)
... to be continued.
But just to not forget it, once more,
if you "enjoy" this movie,
get a psychiatrist NOW.
Or just lock yourself in a very small cupboard.

Sherlock Holmes
Very very cute.
Arthur Conan Doyle's masterpiece that inspired generations of genious grannies and generally speaking weirdos to devote their lives to crime fighting, now on the big screen.
Ok, just a little hint on my psychotic profile: I spent a lot (a really lot) of my time as a teenager reading crime fiction, and I 'm completely addicted to this kind since I was 12. So,
What else could I ever asked?
I heard some people complaining about a bit too much violence or not so much mental agility apparent in this movie, but... have you read the original or you have just stuck with the image of the helpless but ingenious old lady as Agatha presented her detective hero?
The movie has this industrial english dark atmosphere that is so absolutely beatiful and intriguing, the actors are first class (Robert Dawny Jr. and Jude Law) and above all this is a movie you HAVE to see. And slap yourself really hard if you haven't read any of the original books. And read it, now.
(if you don't remember the guy on the right in the movie it's just because he's Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, author of the original novel, you moron!)
Thank you millenia of fanatics of this page once again,
yours (hahaha I don't give a dime),

Taking Woodstock
After I 've seen the trailer of this movie I was (strangely) eager to watch it. While not exactly my cup of tea, the main plot sounded like good material to create something interesting and most of all funny.
I watched it yesterday. Not bad at all, funny but not too much, avoiding any cheap imitations of "xxx movie No X", and even more masterfully avoiding references to genitals to provoke laughs.
I liked this one, although I did not exactly laughed my guts out.
Watch it, you won't regret it anyway.
The plot, extremely briefly is the following: In a small and forgotten village somewhere in US, a young dude manages to organise a Woodstock like event, against all oddities, like his old-school mother, his fellow villagers, local authorities etc. etc.
Rating: 6 because it's another interesting movie with original scenario.

Surrogates
This is the latest "running unshaven against the evil robots - aliens - technology" Bruce Willis movie. Bruce managed after so many hardships to establish himself as the numero uno action hero but with a serious, scientific profile also. Based once more on a comic this movie deals with human fear against technology and the nightmare of having machines running our lives rendering us to obsolete. (Bah?)
Who remembers him as the funny, genius guy in the historical "Moonlighting"?
Somewhat later come the tooooo damn hard 2 die series of movies, and there he has the chance to show off all his muscles and of course prove that even an almost crap scenario movie with a really good actor can make serious success, especially if the case is like my country where "die hard X" is being showing on tv on every Christmas for the last 7 years.
But then comes the brilliant for scifi geeks "Fifth element" and he looks a bit more serious more "actionman". Sixth sense re-imposes himself on our minds as a thoughtful, brilliant, scientist - teacher - whatever.
12 monkeys was another diamond in his collection and just in case you haven't watched it yet, shame on you, run to the closest dvd store and get it now! or I 'll curse you to to watch 100 times a Steven Seagal movie.
Sin city is an absolute personal favorite, combining an absolutely perfect scenario, completely new techniques (back then), and an impressive set of actors. Watch it now, or add to the previous curse 10 movies with Chuck Norris.
Back to surrogates, the movie generally reminds a lot "I", "AI" etc. Bruce fights against human clones whereas all the other bored to live humans wait for their demise. And guess who finally saves the world!!!!!
Rating:
6: interesting, worth to watch, but nothing unbelievably new or astonishing...
Thanx and see ya,
FM

Splendid!!
I was lucky to watch this movie in an extremely stressing, pressing (and some other bloody ...ings) period, and I am still astonished!!!
Ten hurrays for one of the sweetest and powerfull fairy tales i 've ever heard. Based on an equally strong comic, unbelievable perfection in graphic techniques, and a simple but touching romance story, yes, this is something I enjoyed like hell.
Yep, many would comment that the story remind a bit too much Pocahontas, that respect towards nature is sound a bit childish, also that it seems a bit shallow, that the happy ending was cliche, ...
HOWEVER, dress up your best mood, forget just for a couple of hours your imminent problems, and watch this movie feeling at most 15 years old.
A tale about unfair exploitation, this time of aliens by ruthless humans, a love story between the two enemies, and a prevailing nature that "takes nobody's place, but preserves balance" ...
Enjoy this movie,
and see ya in a very short and happy time...
Ciao,
