Taking Woodstock

After I 've seen the trailer of this movie I was (strangely) eager to watch it. While not exactly my cup of tea, the main plot sounded like good material to create something interesting and most of all funny.
I watched it yesterday. Not bad at all, funny but not too much, avoiding any cheap imitations of "xxx movie No X", and even more masterfully avoiding references to genitals to provoke laughs.
I liked this one, although I did not exactly laughed my guts out.
Watch it, you won't regret it anyway.
The plot, extremely briefly is the following: In a small and forgotten village somewhere in US, a young dude manages to organise a Woodstock like event, against all oddities, like his old-school mother, his fellow villagers, local authorities etc. etc.

Rating: 6 because it's another interesting movie with original scenario.

Surrogates

This is the latest "running unshaven against the evil robots - aliens - technology" Bruce Willis movie. Bruce managed after so many hardships to establish himself as the numero uno action hero but with a serious, scientific profile also. Based once more on a comic this movie deals with human fear against technology and the nightmare of having machines running our lives rendering us to obsolete. (Bah?)
Who remembers him as the funny, genius guy in the historical "Moonlighting"?
Somewhat later come the tooooo damn hard 2 die series of movies, and there he has the chance to show off all his muscles and of course prove that even an almost crap scenario movie with a really good actor can make serious success, especially if the case is like my country where "die hard X" is being showing on tv on every Christmas for the last 7 years.
But then comes the brilliant for scifi geeks "Fifth element" and he looks a bit more serious more "actionman". Sixth sense re-imposes himself on our minds as a thoughtful, brilliant, scientist - teacher - whatever.
12 monkeys was another diamond in his collection and just in case you haven't watched it yet, shame on you, run to the closest dvd store and get it now! or I 'll curse you to to watch 100 times a Steven Seagal movie.
Sin city is an absolute personal favorite, combining an absolutely perfect scenario, completely new techniques (back then), and an impressive set of actors. Watch it now, or add to the previous curse 10 movies with Chuck Norris.

Back to surrogates, the movie generally reminds a lot "I", "AI" etc. Bruce fights against human clones whereas all the other bored to live humans wait for their demise. And guess who finally saves the world!!!!!

Rating:
6: interesting, worth to watch, but nothing unbelievably new or astonishing...

Thanx and see ya,
FM

Splendid!!

I was lucky to watch this movie in an extremely stressing, pressing (and some other bloody ...ings) period, and I am still astonished!!!
Ten hurrays for one of the sweetest and powerfull fairy tales i 've ever heard. Based on an equally strong comic, unbelievable perfection in graphic techniques, and a simple but touching romance story, yes, this is something I enjoyed like hell.

Yep, many would comment that the story remind a bit too much Pocahontas, that respect towards nature is sound a bit childish, also that it seems a bit shallow, that the happy ending was cliche, ...
HOWEVER, dress up your best mood, forget just for a couple of hours your imminent problems, and watch this movie feeling at most 15 years old.
A tale about unfair exploitation, this time of aliens by ruthless humans, a love story between the two enemies, and a prevailing nature that "takes nobody's place, but preserves balance" ...

Enjoy this movie,
and see ya in a very short and happy time...
Ciao,
Fligoln

Twilight 2: New Moon

YYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!
HHHHURRRRRAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!
Alright, I watched this MARVELOUS movie, I cried like a baby, I was touched to my bones, and something inside me still wildly excited....
Ok, seriously now, is there anybody on this planet and on the adjacent ones who is older that 14 and really liked this movie????
Ridiculous emo boyz, an "innocent" and fatal heroine, and an eternal love HEY!!!!
one eternal love??? nope guys, cos' our little girly friend has now more options to choose!
So, let's see... take the dark, silent, gothic 120%, emo 140%, with the unbelievable curse to SHINE under the sun, and probably stupid vampire (who doesn't drink blood of course) OR
... take the wild, muscular+5, sweet (a bit inclined towards unjustified violence), half redneck - half indian, probably addicted to anabolic and creatinine, village boy???
A tough decision... and our heroine makes the right one (as always): she "attaches" to the first available until the best catch is on the scene again.
Wow, and where was my favourite sad hero???
The movie doesn't tell, but FOR MY FRIEND ONLY (so my enemies close your damned eyes), I can disclose this highly acclaimed top secret information!!!
He went fishing on the ice (because the genious director thought that a vampire would look cool on the ice - why dammit???). And then when he was about to starve to death (yeah he is cool but white bears are cooler), he decided to go and kill himself by provoking the wrath of the elders in Italy!!!!
I confess that at this point I was a bit intrigued about the "horrible" and mysterious old ones, ... for a couple of seconds anyway, until the ridiculous threesome (reminding Blade IIIXVIXI) vampires sitting inside their horribly empty and deserted mansion. And of course a thousand times worse, the dramatic moment where our hero gets OUT OF HIS SHIRT to commit suicide!!!!!!!!!!!! Just remember that he shines under the bright sun and of course this is a really horrible way to die...
Technically beautiful point was the transformation between man and wolf, but ... not enough to keep you astonished more than 2 seconds...

Ok guys, I got to go now, thanks for reading till here,
seeyaaaa

The Oxford Murders

Once more hi out there,
with love and care for the very (I could easily say extremely) few who read this blog,
here I go again with something I just happened to watch: The Oxford Murders.
Another mystery - murder in a university, intriguing movie, mixing the basics of geniouses at the verge of lunacy, well-hidden secrets, libraries etc. etc.
Quite a great cast, John Hurt is a huge actor whatever you may say, and Elijah Wood can act on something more that the pityful short with a ring burden.
But, it didn't convince me. At least not so much. You see the absence of something new and catchy in the scenario, the predictable changes and revolutions and most of all a few childish points, especially the one in the library that they found the secret code of mathematicians in something that looked more like a magazine - probably Readers Digest. Fail. The atmosphere was generally too much biased for a teen romance movie that lost a lot of the mystery. Yeah right, here we have ancient mysteries, murders, manic lunatics - lets have sex (??????).
Anyway, the movie is not bad, the script is generally predictable, so I do not say anything else here to avoid spoil the story.
Watch it if you have time and mood,
don't expect the movie of the century,
and please remember: All libraries in England are hidding a dark secret that can make you rich and famous and most students in the highest positions are close to madness.
Yours,
FM

5/10 it wasn't bad, but neither new.

Soul Eater - aka Shinigami madness!

Soul Eater

Yep, this is the first anime series I’m writing about, and pay attention because this is definitely worth your precious anime watching time.
Just take the classic Shinigami – God of Death, favorite Japanese theme, add the even more classic “school with unbelievable death fighting students” anime story, and of course a list of fantastical psychic power weapons and out-of-this-boring-earth monsters and you have a general idea of what to expect.
But – wait – this is the first anime series I am writing about, which probably means that I like it a lot, why?
Take the above sterilized and used recipe and – after having a dozen of sake shots – add a lollipop-seriousness Shinigami Death God to rule the school, a full line of maniac teachers, like Dr Stein (does the name ring any bells?) – a lunatic with a huge screw in his head, Professor Sid, an absolutely normal teacher if you overlook the fact that he is dead – zombie, and split the students in two groups, one the fighters and another the weapons, and you have a dinner to remember. And it wouldn’t be nice to forget the Kishin, an unstoppable mad being – skinned by the Shinigami mentioned above - that seeks to destroy our – boring again – world.
The story is crazy, psychopathic in a degree that it’s probably not recommended for youngsters or newbies to the anime planet. But it has this quality, this mystery and as the plot unfolds you find yourself to be eager for the next episode. The whole series I think is completed in around 51 episodes.
Definitely something worthy to watch,
(8/10) as one fresh idea based on very stable standards.

p.s. Ah, and by the way, do you know what is Excalibur???
I am waiting for an answer after this anime. ;)

Joyride 2

Hahaha, oops I meant hi there again,
Alright I have an impossible test for you, here and now,
find the movie I am thinking that includes:
- 4 or 5 youngsters
- half of them are "cute" with a slight addiction to silicone
- travelling on a american, large, unecological, burning-bucks, duke's style car
- travelling from a city to another city in USA - and you can pick whichever cities you like
- middle of the road and the car brakes down
- they meet accidentaly this old man or cop that has on his forehead the sign "I am pervert and I want your bowels, and of course they trust him immediately to follow this unkown path to their destination
- instead of which, they reach a dead end with psycopaths, mutants, nuclear deformities, or simply friendly guys with chainsaws
- everybody in the company of our friends dies horribly (each one in a different elegant way) in a mysteriously predefined order: black, stupid and not so hot girl, hot girl but always after she had sex or at least demonstrated her silicon implants, good gal or dude that they are always a couple.
- At the end we have one or two survivors that they think they have killed the morhertrucker (yeah Alexi rules!) and they leave with some physical and many emotional traumas
- ALWAYS the bad guy reminds us that the torture has no end, even when he is burned, roasted, diced, boiled, and thrown into acid, he shows us with contempt that he will torture us again with a sequel.

Have you found it????
Nope, I do not think so, just because I have around 50 movies like this in my rotten mind.
For those who don't believe me just take a bite (Joyride, Joyride 2, Wrond turn, The hills have eyes, the hills have eyes 2, wrong turn 2, and I am still strugling to forget all the others)

Anyway, usa is a horrible place - everybody knows this, full with deserts, pervert cops and old men, psycopaths that roam loose, and secret places of nuclear experiments (yeah right, they used their ground and not some poor island somewhere on the other corner of the world) and many other interesting encounters. I haven't understood yet why all those pitiful guys still stay there. I am not going, period.
So, here is the moment that nobody gives an ass,
(4/10) not so bad, because it was exactly what I expected, and nothing more, the director kept away from showing the girls naked and finally truckers are not so evil damn it!

p.s. Just a friendly advise for all those wanna-be maniac killers out there (I mean there in the states): find an effective way and use it peticulously, experience and repetition leads to perfection, so cut the crap of experimentation in slaughtering.

Yours,
FM
